Recommend microscope?

Post by kenw232 »

Can anyone recommend a microscope that takes comparable images seen on this guys site?: http://www.youtube.com/user/fpelectroni ... bxxU6XfoRM

Is it no common to be able to buy a brightfield scope that also does darkfield with an adapter? How about phase contrast? whats the point of that?

I'm amateur, but I want to buy a very good scope and don't want to be disappointment.

Is budget a significant consideration? Do you currently own any equipment?

I have a Chinese Amscope which works ok. But I thought I could get better results with something more professional. I don't want to spend much more then $3000.

That's a respectable budget.

Do any of the microscopists have any suggestions.

Hello Craig and Kenw232:

Currently, I'm using a Nikon microscope equipped with Fluophot PlanApo Objective 10X, Plan Apo 20X, 20X phase contrast, 40X phase contrast. Achromatic phase contrast condenser 0.90
Camera is Panasonic WV-CP280 CCTV.
In my opinion, as important objectives quality are as good adjustment of the illumination of the microscope to the characteristics of the camera CCD sensor.
Some of the videos, such as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTJMfasDGow
were made with a modest Lomo microscope with medium quality objectives.

With the budget you have, I think you can acquire a fabulous microscope.

Kenw232: Thanks for your feedback and interest in my Youtube videos.

Best Regards,

Francisco
