Most types of caterpillars I know eat their way out, then finish off most of the shell after they've emerged. It's odd to see an array of essentially intact shells like we have here. I don't see any caps, though, so I'd guess these little critters did eat at least that much.MarkB1 wrote:I wonder, do they eat their way out of the shell or burst out on that seam?
