It will be a while before I will think of buying one, but some among those of us who have already tackled the construction of automated focus stackers might be tempted to give it a try cooking up something functionally equivalent.

I've been thinking a lot about building something that does what this product does, and more. I agree with Enrico--many at this forum could do it, with much less cost and much more fun.

When building such a contraption, to avoid parallax problems, it is important to make the mount of the camera flexible enough to make it possible to place the no parallax point of the optics in the rotation center.

I could not see whether the Gitzo head was designed that way, but I didn't look that closely.
