Big red pest

This curculionid beetle, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, is an asiatic pest now introducted in south Europe associated whith the commerce of this plants.
Its big larvae feed into palm tree stems killing them, and is heavyly attacking the palms in Spain (mostly Phoenix dactilyfera and Phoenix canariensis)

Photographed whith Apo Rodagon D 75mm f4.5 at f5.6 2X on bellows. Canon EOS 20D.
Illuminated whith cross pol ligth, both polarizers at the end of two fiber optic bundles and analizer behind the lens.
