Geranium stigma

Post by lauriek »

From the same plant as my recent anther/pollen shot. At lower mag, around 4-5:1 I think.

Image

32 shots with OM38/2.8 at f2.8 stacked with Zerene stacker Pmax.

Thanks Brian!

It was your fuchsia shots that got me poking around the few flowers left in the garden. :)

Very nice, Laurie!

I think you just got confused with your title: The image isn't showing male, but female bits of the flower: The stigma, with 5 lobes in this case, and (part of) the style.

Doh thanks Betty, I will correct that shortly, you are quite correct I'm completely confused when it comes to flower's sexy bits! ;)

So is the thing in my previous shot labelled 'pollen on anther' actually pollen on stamen?

Laurie,

The stamen consists of the anther plus the filament. (The filament is the 'stalk' where the anther is sitting on top).

In your other picture (Geranium pollen on anther) it's hard to tell without an overview. But unless the pollen isn't actually adhering to the one of the lobes of the 5-lobed stigma (that we see free from pollen above,) it then appears to be on an anther, (The pollen is set free from the anther when the wall of the anther ruptures.)
I'm completely confused when it comes to flower's sexy bits!
Well, I think that isn't all too bad, as long as one doesn't confuse things when it comes to one's own species' "sexy bits".

I do plant shots to sell plants. It's not tongue in cheek when I jokingly refer to the creamy bokeh closeups as 'plant porn' although oddly it's more sexy to insects than plants... if bees could browse the web your photo would get them very excited :-) congrats.
