Nut's lens

Post by ChrisR »

Schneider Xenon 25mm f0.95
I know an old movie nut who has something like this. It would be something like an 8x NA 0.52, give or take some PMF.
Has anyone tried its like?
I hope his house heating breaks down soon, then I might be able to get him to let me play with it.

Stanley Kubrik used an f0.7 lens (or was it a pair of lenses?) made for a candlelight scene (no other lights) in Barry Lindon. It seems it was a used Apollo mission lens. Affordable, then!

That lens (one of them? I don't recall the focal length) was offered by Peter Walnes a year or two ago.

Presumably these things aren't particularly well corrected wide open because they don't have to be, for movies, but some of them are expensive enough that they might be ;)
Anyone got a Nikkor Noctilux?

At that price, they're probably pretty well corrected.

However...

The 17 mm lens is designed to cover an 11 mm circle. Contrast this with a 10X microscope objective that is designed to cover only 2.5 mm. One might suspect that having to cover a 4X wider angle would force the designer to make some compromises.
