Floor sweepings OR dust on an insect

Post by elf »

I can't seem to get these to die on a windowsill so this came from the floor:)

I shot it as an excercise to compare results with other El-Nikkor 50mm shots. I learned that it is a lot harder to control a dead insect than a plant

I know how dust and lint can ruin a good photo but with that background it sort of all blends together into something that is actually artistic IMO..I like it!

I'm with Doug. With that background (is it black granite?) it looks like a fly in a blizzard. :)

Thanks, yes it is a black granite tile. I was hoping that it would be a bit more reflective, but a little of the reflection shows.

How does everyone handle mounting insects without breaking body parts off? They seem rather fragile and any little breath of air moves them around.

I think if they are long dead, and hence dry, then they can be very brittle.

I guess there are ways to rehydrate them to some extent and regain some suppleness, hopefully one of the entomologists will step in with some info!
