Overwintering cluster flies (Pollenia spp.) have been active for quite a while, yesterday I saw my first 2009-emerged fly - Epalpus signifer, length 12mm.
This is a common early Spring species (Fam: Tachinidae) the maggots of which are parasitoids of Owlet Moth caterpillars (Fam: Noctuidae).

105mm MF @ f/8 on bellows, full frame height with slight cropping of width. 40 frames @ 0.1 mm, ZS PMax stack.

Looks great, NU! I think for purposes of documentation such a white background works best, and apart from that, it gives aesthetically very appealing images too, for my taste.

May I ask how you've mounted this fly that it looks so "suspended in mid-air" without any pin visible?

P.S. Agree about the pipe! Smile

Thanks folks.
lauriek: just a single flash and foam coffee cup diffuser; somewhat uneven.

Betty: it took a while to find, see
