Urania riphaeus wing scales

Post by lauriek »

After seeing Charlie's and then dmillard's shots of this amazing moth some time ago I couldn't resist picking one up when the chance presented itself.

I've been trying to shoot it for the last couple of days and boy is it a challenge to light properly! These are my best attempts so far...

Very nice Laurie!

The second image looks exceptionally opulent (I rarely have the opportunity to use that word :) ).

Good grief they look like man made fibres like you might find on a sofa cushion or similar

Wow, really impressive and well done. Love the golden tones.

Lens, lighting, number of images in stack?

Thanks all!

Tom, it was the Nikon 10x CF objective, Olympus macro twinflash (Still in the market for a fibre optic rig!), from memory the 10x images were 40-50 images per stack.. Sorry I don't know how I forgot to mention any technical details!

Laurie,

Thanks for the technical feedback info. Amazing results w/o fibre optics!
