These small metallic iridescent scales were photographed at about 12X and then at about 40X. I didn't "tent" the light source around the wing, so these scales take on a sort of "brushed" gritty appearance.

Callithea philotima are interesting little butterflies.
I have a pair m/f that I 'set' some time ago; but, so far I have not been able to take a reasonable photograph of the underside; except for one image that ended up looking like a Tiffany lampshade.
