Cruising diatom

Post by Charles Krebs »

I was going through one of the samples I collected last week... chasing some paramecium bursaria at a high magnification, when this lovely diatom slowly moved through the view. It was one of those serendipitous moments when, without planning, a nice looking subject moved through a nice background and I grabbed a quick shot. Looking at the picture later, I really liked the "feel" of the image. I did not add a scale bar, but the picture is of an area that measures 106 by 70 micron.

I remember in my reef aquarium I used to see brown slime on the glass sometimes, which I thought was a brown algae, but turned out to be a brown diatom bloom. They are such interesting creatures and you always capture them so beautifully Charles
