Zeiss INKO objectives stuck...

Post by Joseph S. Wisniewski »

OK, here's a weird one. I have four Zeiss Pol objectives, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 40x with RMS threads, mounted in the appropriate INKO Nomarski prisms. Those appear to have Zeiss 24mm threads, and to be screwed into spiffy little Zeiss dovetail plates.

I wish to remount them in a Nikon turret that has M26 holes. The bushing shouldn't be much of a problem. What is a problem is that I can't, for the life of me, get these dang INKOs off the little dovetail plates. Do these things actually unscrew? Are they just thoroughly stuck? Are there little set screws that I'm missing somewhere? Or is it a mega dose of Loc-Tite?

Any hints?

Just thought I'd point out that they're still stuck. ;)

You've tried the old faithful technique of trying to tighten them a little first?

Laurie, thank you for the suggestion.

I've tried so many things. Tightening before loosening got "covered" by trying to see if they might have been "left hand thread". I've used a sonic breaking tool, applied heat to the dovetail, and a few other tricks. I'm beginning to think they're attached with the Zeiss equivalent of Loc-Tite, because these things are stuck...

Hhmm, seems nobody here has a ready answer for this problem.

I wonder if you've tried asking in the Yahoo Microscope Group? That bunch often has good coverage for problems like this.

Thanks Rik.

I just joined, searched for INKO, read all 106 postings containing the term, found no joy, and posted a more elaborate version of the question I posted here.

It's now pending moderator approval.

INKO Stuck

Post by Perl »

Hi

Yes i have 3 INKO Before and 2 of them - no problem
but one was wery hard to the dovtail carrier

For that one i reassembly the adjustable dovtail and unscrew
the objectives from it , i have to take hard to get it loose , but here was no locking media in the treads

Thanks. I guess I'll have to try more force.

Hopefully, I won't have to cut the dovetails. I was considering that...
