I was invited to join a friend for a four day stay in Sweden. Weather turned out to be just perfect, and many insects were seen, including five species of odonates. The odonates had probably just started emerging a day before we arrived.
Staying in the woods close to the water, means that I can grab my camera and photograph from sunrise to sunset. It turned out to be a real kickstart of the season, which hardly has started yet for me.
Found a newly emerged Ruby Whiteface Leucorrhinia rubicunda at 7 in the morning, while it was still very foggy.
After some initial shots with Sigma 150, I ran up to the house and reached for more lenses. Ended up shooting this beauty with 14, 50, 65 and 150 mm.
The three photos here are uncropped with Canon 5D on tripod, placed out in the water. Taken the 3rd of May.
As I remember that the first was shot at minimum focus distance, that is macro 1:1, the two others magnification factor has been estimated by scaling and comparing photos.
Sigma 150 mm at macro 1:1
f/13, 0.8 s, iso 200
Mp-E 65 close to macro 2.5:1
f/13, 1.0 s, iso 200
Mp-E 65 close to macro 3.25:1
f/16, 2.0 s, iso 200
Hope you enjoy.

Re: Rössjöholm #1
The photos are beautiful!
But this snippet is what I really get a kick out of:
Great composition, sharpness, colors, and bokeh -- I like 'em all!

I'm sure it's not accurate, but I can't shake the vision of Erland wading out into chilly spring waters, hoping that his tripod feet will sink well -- but not too well -- into the mud and murk at the bottom. Whatever it takes, in the quest for photographic excellence.Canon 5D on tripod, placed out in the water.

Thank you for comments all three.
Rik, this is my first real extensive use of tripod doing macro, and the bottom of this little pond is quite tricky with old tree branches all over, with soft spots in between. I certainly had my share of problems placing the tripod and adjusting it (it was not my tripod).
Yes, I think I meant out over the water I have only dropped my camera into water once, filling up the sigma 150 with water. As can be seen in the first picture, it still works.

Nice pics Erland.
Very brave usage of tripod thought. (Putting aside it was not yours )
Hope anti-corrosive one and you anchored it well.
By the way, one reason I'm not using a tripod yet is that I'm affraid it will sink into the cow sh_t.
Now I'm just curious what is Rössjöholm from title? A place in Sweden?

The meaning of beauty is in sharing with others.
P.S.
Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome.

Erland, I think your phrasing was perfect the first time. The more explanation I hear, the more I think it's true: "...wading out into chilly spring waters...".
And a Sigma 150 actually getting filled with water, and then cranking out these shots!
I'm very impressed. I gotta get me one of those things.
But I don't think my pictures will look as good as these...
