Nice shots, Jim. I especially like the third one.

Lovely pictures, Jim. :D

Took a long time to load, though. My browser says they're 500-700 KB each, about 3 times as large as the forum guidelines say.

They are the proper dimension, max 800 pixels on the longest side, so the length probably comes from selecting too high a quality on the JPEG compression. You just need to drop that a couple of notches. What tool are you using to create your JPEG's?

Rik must be on "dial-up."  They loaded instantly on my end, so I did not notice anything but they are a pretty high file size. Thistles do make for some good subjects and they attract a lot of insects too. Very nice there Jim. :D

Very nice contrasting textures and the spash of colors from the flowers really catches you eye right away and a bonus leaf-footed bug in the third one. :smt023

I'm on DSL, 70-80 KB/sec download speeds. The whole page with 3 images just took 26 seconds to load in FireFox, which is consistent with the file sizes. But the page reloads instantly in both FireFox and IE, even if I explicitly refresh the page which usually forces a new download. Apparently photobucket is using some unusual cacheing policy.
