Actually, the bud of a Hosta in the early stages of opening. I was interested in the droplets on the bud, partially because they were not from any obvious external source and there was no early morning dew seen elsewhere in the neighborhood. I wonder if the flower itself secreted them? In any event, the one in the lower left provides a nice secondary image of the plant's leaves.

Thanks, Lou. I was previously unaware of this process and find it intriguing. The link you provided mentioned the same or a similar phenomenon on tooth fungus; I wonder now if that is what I was seeing last year on this example.
