I am quite intrigued about exactly how this type of microscope is used. I have some vague ideas. Can anyone englighten me?

Looks very similar in its design to the Leitz hardness tester discussed here: http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy ... =24&t=6990

Hi,

This is a Zeiss light-sheet microscope (Lichtschnittmikroskop).

It has pairs of objectives perpendicular to each other, one for illumination and one for imaging. You can use it for all kinds of surface observations.

The principle of light sheet microscopy was recently re-discovered for use in fluorescence microscopy of biological samples https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_she ... microscopy

Thanks Ichty.

I'll see if I can get it to work...
