Christmas Stacks! Sunset Moth and Emerald Scales.

Post by Macro_Cosmos »

First of all, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

It was hot and humid in Sydney yesterday, and I was sick. Didn't go to the celebrations since I don't want to spread diseases. Instead, I decided to run two stacks on some festive colours.

First we have a sunset moth, anyone still wonders where the name came from?

Next, I have an Emerald Sparrow Butterfly:

Another thing I did was write a short blog post about diffused light versus harsh light: https://macrocosmosblog.wordpress.com/2 ... -question/

Enjoy!

You should post some of these images to The Atlas of Living Australia: https://www.ala.org.au/

Neither is indgenous to Aus though?

Yep, neither of them are Australian critters.

I do have a batch of birdwings, the ones native to Australia coming in soon ;)
Those should be worth posting on the site. The two shown in the post aren't native to Australia.

Ornithoptera Priamus butterflies can be found in several small areas along the coast in NSW and QLD. That should be a fun little project, and I finally get to handle a protected species (all birdwings are Appendix 2 CITES).

You are very lucky to be able to see these in the wild! I'm envious. I had a mounted set of color forms of that species (green, orange, and blue) when I was a kid, and they were fascinating.

The Atlas of Living Australia is not limited to Australian critters and flora. Although I mostly upload Australian ones.

I was thinking more broadly about what you are doing after reading your blog.
