Faffing with double immersion. Stack of 40 images, white light, DIC, 100/1.3 PlanAPO + 1.4 apl/achr condenser. Frustule is 50 microns diameter.

I did intend to use 405nm violet (no need for a cooled camera), but the experimental, prototype mountant I used turned out to be utterly opaque to violet (and cuts blue a bit too), hence white light for this one. The mountant has a higher R.I. than zrax but along with a few issues too. Great for high contrast in hi-res images though. The mountant was made by someone else, not me, so I'll leave them to comment further if they choose to.Lou Jost wrote:It's time for violet light and a cooled monochrome camera.....hehehe

Rik - sorry to say I deleted all the RAWs once I'd stacked the picture. It was just a test of the mountant really. I could shoot it again I guess, but perhaps you'll accept this one as a consolation. Same gear but a thicker diatom (75 micron FoV, 90-image stack) hence the extra in-focus crud.
