I used to use a Canon 6D with NFK2.5X on an Olympus Bh2.

Now I've traded all my FF cameras for a Gh5 and want to use it
on my microscope. The Gh5 has a 2X crop factor, so I would
like to try the Oly 1.67NFK + a .71X Metabones Speed Booster.
Should get me back to ~ field of view I had before. I wonder
if image quality will suffer? Anyone used SpeedBooster on a scope?

The Gh5 has full electronic shutter (no vibration) and makes
fantastic video compared to Canon. So I hope this might work.

The Olympus NFK 1.67x photo eyepiece does not cover full frame (24x36 mm).

Therefore I suspect that you will get vignetting and distortion in the corners.

Have you already got an NFK 1.67x? It would be cheaper to buy another EOS 6D than an NFK 1.67x plus a Metabones.

I have the Metabones Speedbooster. I don't shoot afocally so I can't speak directly to your point, but in the infinity-corrected world it is not useful; you get better results just using a shorter tube lens. It can be useful for finite lenses that have big image circles but a high degree of optimization for a particular magnification.

Alan: The 1.67 NFK (that I do have) will be projecting onto MFT sensor (18mm x 12mm), so should spill over the edges quite a bit. Yes? So I think I have to squeeze the extra spill-over data back down to 18x12, hence the .7X speedbooster idea.

Lou: The Bh2 with my optics is not infinity corrected. It uses various projection lenses (3.3x, 2.5, 1.67x). Have you used speedbooster on your scope?

My camera + lens + objective is my scope, though I am currently building a real scope, but it will be infinity-based and the image will be directly projected onto the sensor by the tube lens.

Few Zeiss finite microscopes had a magnification changer or single lens with a 0.8X position, if there is a similar device for the Olympus it would solve your matching field issue, I don't know if it even exists.

The Olympus BH2-CA Magnification Changer only does 1x, 1.25x and 1.5x (plus a Bertrand lens).

So far, nobody has devised a good way of using a Four Thirds camera on a BH-2 microscope (apart from afocal), so please let us know how you get on, and post some photomicrographs.

Hi Alan,

I took the plunge and ordered a metabones .71X speed booster.

It works great on Bh2 with 1.67X NFK! Matches ocular field of view
almost exactly, and corner sharpness is equal to center sharpness (by
my eye anyway on full HDMI output to 2.5K screen). The MFT Gh5 images appear even a little better than my old full-frame 6D + 2.5NFK setup. Video will be far superior. I am excited!
