Looking through a box of mostly mundane looking periwinkle shells I came across two that looked as though they might be worth exploring a little bit.
Here they are along with a couple of stereo pairs (cross-eyed).

Periwinkle shells
Amazing observation and photography of for most people a mundane subject. I had never even heard of periwinkles until about eight years ago when my wife and I were on Long Island in a little cove just after sunrise. This old guy came down the cove to his boat and we asked what he fished for and he said "periwinkles."
Now, to possibly raise some discussion - what do periwinkles taste like and how do you prepare them? Do they taste like chicken, snails, clams, mussels, turtle or other vaguely appetizing lifeforms slathered in garlic butter?
Mike
Again, elegant images, Charles.
