I keep looking for the really nice looking moss sporangia that I have seen posted, but the ones I find are not quite as dramatic. But they're fascinating none the less, so I thought I would do a couple stereo versions.
This second version was done with the 50X Olympus MPLFLN. I almost didn't bother to stack the files after they were taken since there was a surprising amount of motion in the center during acquisition. It was stacked anyway and I was surprised that it came out rather nicely.

Hi Charles,
Thanks for posting these interesting, very nice photos.
By coincidence I'm currently also trying to take pictures of moss spore capsules (also with fluorescence) and noted as well that at higher magnification they are "moving", especially when a smaller piece of moss is used. I found they were more steady when using a larger piece of moldy wood with moss. (or cutting off one capsule)

Thanks all for looking.
Yes, I've really enjoyed using that configuration. Together with longer working distance objectives (Mitutoyo or the Olympus LWD types) it really lets me play around with the lighting. The only "downside" with the LWD objectives is that the 50X has a very modest NA (0.50 for the Oly). Compared to a 50/0.80 I sometimes use, the resolution difference is clearly seen when pixel peeping, although at these screen sizes it is not really apparent. But is is much harder to get attractive lighting with many specimens with the short WD of the 0.80.Cactusdave wrote:Nice. I especially like the higher magnification pair. I assume this was taken with the MM-11/Olympus hybrid 'scope you created?
