hay infusion... no hay
When you're a city dweller, in the winter, what alternatives are good for making a hay infusion in the absence of hay or dried grass? I tried some dead leaves and moss but it's not doing too well

A couple of suggestions. If you really want hay, head over to your local pet supplies store. They will have hay in small bales as rabbit food and bedding. They may even have a split bale they'll let you have a handful or two from. There's nothing magic about hay though, I've found plenty of interesting life including amoebae in cloudy water cut flowers have been in too long. Especially the gunk at the bottom of the vase. Discarded leaves and stalks from cut flowers will also work as an 'infusion' and generate plenty of 'infusoria' Keeping infusions in light helps growth, but not direct sunlight.
