LCD Display

Post by siliconGary »

This is an LCD display from a portable DVD player (Just the LCD layer after the backplane was removed). I thought it was interesting looking at it with different illumination.

First with transmitted light (unusual for me I normally use microscope in metallurgical mode)

Image

Bright Field Reflected light (My normal imaging mode for looking at chips) you can see there are two layers for the electrodes to the pixels

Image

Dark field reflected - on this sample I barely have enough light output from my LED source for dark field

Image

And lastly a bright field image taken with my 20x objective

Image

All images single shot on an Olympus BH2 with LED light source, NeoDplan 10x or 20x objectives

Nice - I like seeing the different technology behind LCD panels.
