At least I am assuming that is what it is, first slime mold of this type that I have personally seen. The substrate is the bark of a flowering dogwood that had been in a moist culture chamber (petri dish with damp filter paper) for a little over a week and a half. The purpose of such was to culture slime mold specimens. Looks as though it worked but not quite to my expectations as I was hoping for Myxogastria species.

Hi,
Myxomycetes can be tough to identify. From my limited experience this looks like a Cribraria species, possibly something like Cribraria violacea .
