Came across this today, hope this hasn't been posted here before!

The video clip is short but interesting, the BBC crew supposedly used an off-the-shelf Iphone lens for their custom 4K cam set-up. The lens looks custom or maybe its an iphone lens mounted in retro?

Note for people not located in the UK: due to location restrictions it was really a hassle for me to watch this clip in the US. My VPN that used to work on BBC, did not work this time, BBC has blacklisted most VPN services it turns out, so I ended up using a Chrome extension plug-in called Beebs to watch it.

Saw that, it appears to be rather like the much hyped Frazier camera.
I assume they're using different FL phone camera lenses put into a common mount so they can interchange them, and there's a relay lens system behind it. _________________ Chris R |

Cool setup !
Mayby a bit overcomplicated but i guess thats what happens when you want to build something from scratch and try new things
Not alot of ppl could do that or have patience for building it.
Impressive build and filming with that rig for sure. |

It seems it's worth having something special, to get special video. I'd be interested to see the budgets for the BBC/David Attenborough's series.
If you fancy the Canon 50-1000mm cine lens, it's $70,000. It covers APS, by the way. _________________ Chris R |

I wonder why some of those sample videos are so terribly dark (for example the 2nd half of the above ant video). Its LED ring light has variable intensity control and seems to be capable of producing much more light.
Did the photographers purposely keep the light dim to avoid disturbing subjects?
Interesting $1400 bug eye view lens. The DPR review at Kickstarter seems pretty honest and detailed. I kind of want one, though I don't know if I would pay that much for such a specialist lens.

Pretty impressive by the BBC, I wonder which actual lens they used?
Anyone know? _________________ My extreme-macro.co.uk site, a learning site. Your comments and input there would be gratefully appreciated. |

Why, oh why... I know I could actually watch these with a little effort, but just CBA. _________________ - Rane |

I think it was in the night, and he didn't use the LED ring, but a torch _________________ Asher |
