Tortoise Shell Beetle

Post by anvancy »

Slowly and steadily I am making progress in using my wemacro rail.

There is still lot to learn and improve.

Here is a photo of a tortoise shell beetle.

Yes, quite sinister/creepy, but I think the black background is good :).

Thanks Saul.

The background is a black cloth to keep as a base for masking. The final is a simple solid color fill in photoshop. The cloth helped in the transition of the opaque shell details.

@Chris: Thanks. The common comment I have got is the beetle looks straight out the alien from independence day.

Very nice image Anvancy. Your location says India - It looks like you have access to some very interesting insects that we dont find in north america!

Thanks Jon.

Yes I am based in India.

Being in the tropics, there is a lot of variety.

However insect trading/capturing in wild is banned by the wildlife department. Further the insect collectors are majorly linked to colleges and universities. So to get to them,to access the specimens is kind of difficult. I have to rely on finding naturally dead insects in my garden.

here is a 3x photo of the same.

This time 41 photos.

I am still struggling with lighting the specimen properly with the Jansos. Also I dont know how the areas near the eyes is missed. I remember doing the stack till the end point which is the end point of the shell.

Thanks Mike and Yawns.

It was a little tricky to get proper details on that rim and to control reflections.

It might respond interestingly to crossed polars?

As in put two circular polarizers and adjust them to see the effects?

Thanks Raza Shaikh.
