All my macro gear stolen

Post by axle01 »

Hey guys I'm in Townsville Australia last Wednesday I woke up to find a room under our house had been broken into and a heck of a lot of camera and astronomy gear missing.

Nearly all my macro gear was taken including lenses, microscope objectives, extension tubes, 3 Raynox lenses, Nikon to Sony adapters etc etc etc.

Plus a heap of astronomy eye pieces and photography equipment.

Totally deverstated, I have accumulated this gear over many years preparing for my retirement in December last year.

Daunting prospect having to start over knowing I won't be able to replace what I've lost.

The gear that was taken will be hard to sell as most of it is specialised stuff unless he is intending to do astronomy or macro.

The part that pisses me is 2 neighbours one next door and one across the road seen a tall young bloke in dark clothes with a ponytail walking out from under my house and place boxes in his black SUV at 4.30 am and drive off and told their dogs to shut up and went back to bed.

Didn't even get a rego number.

The police said to me they were disappointed in my neighbours that they didn't do anything and this is why crime is so rife here in Townsville.

Sick and pissed.

Sorry to hear, Alan. I feel your pain.

Can we watch eBay and find that thief, if he dares to sell it on eBay? Do you have/remember special identification features (serial number, special mark/dent/scratch) to know which item is yours?

Over at an audio forum, a thief stole some audio gears from a vendor but got caught on eBay. The vendor remembered his times ID features, fished out the thief and had police caught him.

How horrible. Sorry to hear. Do you have insurance to at least cover your cost?
I'm in Canada! Isn't that weird?

Yeah I've put a claim in and waiting for the insurance company to get back to me but it won't replace the years of work setting up my gear getting it right.
There's things I won't know are missing till I go to use them.
I can't even charge my camera batteries to use my cameras that fortunately were up stairs and secured.

Alan, my heart goes out to you. In your shoes, I'd be devastated--and any of us could find ourselves in your shoes.

Quite a few items on your list are of interest mainly to small, tight-knit communities. And I suspect that some items would be hard to sell other than on eBay. So let's be vigilant, and look for any opportunity to help you catch the thief and return your gear to you.
5 microscope objectives various sizes
Would you mind sharing details? Microscope objectives are something that quite a few of us watch.

Hi Alan, I've had a break from macro so I've just seen this. Sorry to hear about your gear and hope you find the thief.

I live close to Townsville and you are welcome to borrow some of my gear if it would help you (PM sent).

:(
I can understand, I have been stolen a few weeks ago. Less macro things than you, some hitech stuff that i don't care but also memories, family jewelry that can't be replaced.
I Hope you managed to rebuild your setup.
Our heads are round so our thoughts can change direction.
