Golden Algae - Dinobryon and Synura

Post by hkv »

In a recent freshwater sample I found a lot of golden algae. I believe these are Synura and Dinobryon. Both colonies had several layers of cells/members and were extremely difficult to stack without various artifacts and swirls. Took some manual retouching to get a decent result. Anyhow, here they are and I find he Dinobryon extremely beautiful. Just like a "bouquet de fleurs" except for being only micrometers in size.

Brilliant images ! Perfect quality and incredible lighting.
I love the first one the most :) You have perfectly taken this very difficult subject.
What objectives have you used and which of your microscopes ?

Hi Håkan,
really nice "bouquet de fleurs" you are showing here! Did you shoot those using the new prism along with the 60x WI objective?
Best regards,
Michael

Thank! No I have a different prism for the APOs. The new prism I bought from you is to be used with the UplanFL series. The 60X for my fluorites was the only prism missing, so now I have a complete stack.

Ah, I see. The U-DPO60S is not only meant for the fluors, but also for the UIS UPLANAPO 60XW3, that's why I was asking. Would have been nice to see that it works with UIS2, too :).
Best regards,
Michael

Ahh, I have not tried that. I will for sure try to see how it performs. I believe both UPLANAPO60XW3 and UPLANSAPO60XW are NA 1.20. Should be fairly compatible.
