Organic Venus

Post by leonardturner »

Not the planet, not the lens, but the strange little plant that eats both sunlight and insects, this example was found at a local nursery and in spite of packaging that suggested
it was aimed at a much younger demographic, it came home with me and has now been living in my yard for several weeks. I was pleasantly surprised when it flowered, producing
a succession of tiny (about 17 mm) white flowers.

This jewel-like structure lies in the center of the flower.

I believe that the linear structure to the right of the victim is a trichome adapted to sensing vibration and triggering the trap to close.
