This flagellate found in freshwater, with non-rigid body,
a long flagellum directed forward as "exploring" exploring the way
and another shorter directed backwards,
for now belongs to Heteronema genus
I am grateful to Gordon Lax and Bruce Taylor for their invaluable guidance.

If I had seen this organism in my pond water samples, I might have just thought it was Peranema. I might not have seen or noticed that trailing flagellum. Now, with your clear and well done video, I'll know the correct ID. Now I just have to hope my 75-year old memory can store and retrieve this information.

Hi, for now it is within the Heteronema genus, later as Bruce told me these euglenoid with "anterior gliding flagellum" probably not remain in Heteronema.billporter1456 wrote:If I had seen this organism in my pond water samples, I might have just thought it was Peranema.
