Very nice photos and interesting story, Lou. Thank you for sharing.

That misdirection theory makes sense to me.

When I saw your title and photos the first time, I did say to myself "there is probably no evolutionary advantage for a spider to mimic a frog". But I did not post that thought, as I don't / didn't study frogs or amphibians that much.

Yes, that bothered me too. But the resemblance was unmistakable and it definitely was not imitating bird poop like its relatives.
