Oyster mushroom 100x

Post by kit1980 »

Wild oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sp.) spores, mounted in lactophenol cotton blue, 100x objective, inverted bright field image:

Non-spore cells from the same slide - where the mushroom touched the glass during spore-printing - 100x objective, inverted bright field, two photos stitched because it was slightly larger than the field of view:

Spores are always interesting to view, both images look for all the world like bacteria of some sort. Could be what the last one is maybe? :-k Wonderful and interesting shots. :)

Thanks!
I'm pretty much sure it's fungal cells on both photos. The size is too large for bacteria (some cells are about 40 microns in length on the second photo), and cotton blue mostly stains chitin.
