Gorgeous picture!

I didn't even know they had parasites. I guess nothing is really safe from things like this. I wonder if parasites get smaller parasites :?

Great photo.

GaryB, even a bacterium gets a bacteriophage parasite.

Beautiful image, Jorgen! The Beatle's color is stunning.
Were the subjects dead, when you imaged them? Approximately how many stacks did you use?

Curt,
Do you happen to know what "parasites" pray on phage/virus? Even smaller viruses, or prions? I am too lazy to search PubMed now and haven't studied virology for 8 years.

zzffnn, I'm not sure. I've always assumed a virus was the end of the line for host/parasite relationships.

Fantastic image !

But... Are you sure it is tick ? As far as I know the ticks feed on vertebrates.

Will you be so kind as to give us some additional info such as: the way of illumination, stacking software and what option was used.

Marek

Marek, mites ("ticks") are commonly parasitic on insects.

OK, mites generally can be parasites but ticks are special kind of mites feeding on blood of vertebrates, I think.

Could be. Common words like "tick" or "bug" are notoriously unstandardized, though they have more specific meanings among specialists.
