Very nice images. I think you are benefiting from careful precise image stepping as well as some nice objectives. Are you doing your image stepping based solely on the tick marks on the fine focus? I think that's the best way with diatoms. It's easy to not collect enough closely spaced images if you just try to do the stack by eye, whether through an eyepiece, on the back of the camera, or even on a monitor. I have to confess I don't always follow this good practise myself  . Of course if you have a stepper motor controlling the fine focus, that saves a lot of very precise manual movements.

Thanks for encouragement, that's what keeps me going. <g>

David, on my MM-11 I use a couple of different plunger dial indicators, depending on the steps. On the Optiphot and PZO I use the dial. I haven't figured out a way to mount an indicator on those or I would in a heartbeat.

I'm not smart enough yet in figuring out how to mount a stepper motor on the fine focus knobs, although I would be quite happy doing this manually if I could mount an indicator on the Optiphot and PZO.

Thanks,

I was extremely happy with the Nikon PlanApo CFN 10x and what it resolved.
