Biddulphia spec. 3D + Asterolampra insignis

Post by sushidelic »

Hello,

after quite a while of experimenting, here's a Biddulphia from Oamaru in 3D.
115 images PMax stack, 50x/0.80. Diatom loose on the slide, air, no cover, illumination from two Jansjö-LED and diffusor, very oblique angle obviously.
3D in this case is more than just a gimmick, it adds a lot of information about the shape of the diatom.

Best regards and thanks for looking,
Michael

Very nice! Stereo makes the structure quite clear.

BTW, for my eyes stereo is very seldom a gimmick. Almost always I understand 3D structure a lot better from stereo than I can from a single image.

Thanks for your replies!

I shot a side version, very quick and dirty and not so nice, but still it might make a valuable addition to this thread.

Thanks a lot for your comments!

Here's another one from the slide, I guess it's Asterolampra insignis A.Schmidt in Schmidt et al 1888, shown with two different illumination setups. First one is "clean" epi-darkfield, second one is lit by two diffused Jansjö LEDs very oblique from the side. Pictures were made quite quickly, hence the not so top notch quality :)

Best regards,

Some wonderful images - the stereo images certainly show off Biddulphia well

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.
