2017 "High Magnification" Macro Setup (Automated)

Post by Sharks »

This is the new setup i used to take high magnification macro photographs. The set is built directly on the "WeMacro" automatic rail system. I still can not test it fully, but compared to StackShot price-performance ratio is very high and at 10x does not have problems.

High Magnification" Macro Setup (Automated)

Great setup - just curious, what is the material you are using to cover the base board ?

Thanks,
Vishnu

Sleek setup Sharks.

Sharks,

Beautiful work!! You might consider replacing the "cone" adapter with a flat one. The cone type can cause some minor vignetting. With William's WeMacro and the Stackshot focus rail I've found using a simple cheap off-axis loading really helps, especially at high magnifications.

As you've found diffusing the LED lamps is a good idea, many different options here with all sorts of things like cups, foam, tissue paper, wrapping and so on. Also moving the diffuser with the lens or fixing it are areas worth experimenting, but that's halve the fun doing the experimenting!!

Very nice setup.

Best,

Mike

Thanks for a very informative post with great pictures. What brand is your 4 way focusing rail? On looking on e-bay I see many similar items for around US$30, but have no idea of their quality.

Bill,

Think this is directly from WeMacro. Another higher performance option is the iShoot 4 way that was posted here a few weeks ago, this look like a very well built dual axis rail.

Best,

Mike

Thanks

I use it for this. But you can find it cheaper :)

Very clean build ! Nice to see someone else using the Wemacro.
I got it myself but have not used it yet as i miss some parts like a sturdy base and som rigg för specimen for and a camera.. Optical breadboards seems way to expensive considering freight and VAT so searching for alternatives..

Looking at your first photo it seems to perform very well.
My setup is simular, hopefully i will get nice results like you !
Probably will copy your plastic cup diffuser setup :)

Do you run the Wemacro with distance or number of steps ?

Hope you dont mind posting a picture of mine not so finished rig.
(sorry for the crappy lightning, snapshot with borrowed point and shoot)

Thanks :)

I use "number of steps" mode all the time. With this mode, I can visually adjust the shooting.

The plastic cup is one of the best diffusers :D
