Pelicinid wasps are almost always female, and they probably reproduce by parthenogenesis. They use their extraordinary abdomen to parasitize burrowing beetle larvae, in particular scarabeid larvae.

Although they fly only slowly, I could not get a satisfactory picture of one before it would fly away. Since they are not that common most of the time, I chose to take this one home and take its picture in front of a window.
