The first shot was hurried and under exposed using a twin flash with no diffuser. Unusually the dragonfly didn't fly off before a second shot, and waited until I got the diffuser over the flash and adjusted the exposure, it even let me get very close, minimum focal distance with a 32 mm extension tube.
The reason it was so docile was an injury on the rear of the thorax, as you can see in the third shot from the green blob on the RHS of the picture.
It didn't let me get to take a picture of the injury however,when i moved round it was too much and it managed to fly off some meters into the pond rushes.
I hope it made it, but it looked bad, perhaps a bird had almost caught it?
