Yasuni national park part I

Post by pbertner »

A single ray of sunshine managed to work its way through the dense canopy to provide natural backlighting for this defensive display of a leaf-mimicking katydid (Pterochroza ocellata):

The first and second really have impact and I can relate to the salamander, especially when I don't have my dentures in. :-k All in all a wonderful series, the turtles and butterflies are quite entertaining. :smt023

Beautiful photos. I lived next to that park for two years but only once found one of those beautiful katydids with the ocellated wings. Great insect!

Fabulous set of pictures!

I love the subtle lighting and the relatively dark exposure. :D

Very nice pics indeed, as usual :).

The salamander shot makes me think of the pain that goes into the shots. I almost don't think i have been taking pictures unless i have been bitten or stung by something. It looks like the salamander is suffering similarly, it certainly has some kind of mosquito on it, but is there also a leach just above its right hind leg? The presence of these little bugs adds atmosphere for me, tells me about how it would be sitting there in its environment and how glad i would be for insect repellent whilst searching for insects :)

Poor thing...

Tpe- Thanks for looking and commenting. Actually, the "poor thing" in this photo is actually me! There were swarms of biting midges and they photobombed pretty all my pics :) . I tend not to use insect repellent as well, unlike my guides, and so I tend to bear the brunt of it!
