Olympus Bioscapes 2015
Does anyone know what is going on with Olympus Bioscapes? I can't find any resource to enter and everywhere I search, all I get is a website for last years winners (even on the Olympus America website). Has it been discontinued? The way they have been downsizing over the last few years I wouldn't be surprised.

I was curious too so I just send your question (just the when and where) to contest @ olympusbioscapes.com.
If answered, I will post the outcome.

Hmm, doesn't bode well. You've always been able to enter earlier than this before iirc.
I hope it carries on, looking at the numbers here, if I could squeeze two more images into the finals I could theoretically move up from equal 16th to equal 9th in terms of total images through to the finals!

Olympus Bioscapes
I emailed the head man Nacho Abia at Olympus and this is the reply I receievd from one of his minions:
Dear Mr. Much - I am writing to respond to your inquiry to Mr. Abia regarding Olympus' BioScapes competition.
Olympus is proud of the attention that the annual BioScapes imaging competition has attracted for over 11 years. We started it as a way to inspire excellence in photomicrography and call attention to the important work being done in laboratories around the globe. Our vision was to connect microscopists with the best imaging experts in their fields.
Since it's beginning in 2004, more powerful means of teaching and linking photomicrographers have evolved, especially using online education and social media tools. Because Olympus is committed to using every means to enhance excellence in research and life science imaging, we have decided to focus on these platforms in continuing our mission of helping people do the best possible science.
In the meantime, www.olympusbioscapes.com, will continue to commemorate more than a decade worth of amazing images and those that supported this platform to bring their science to the world.
I invite you to join the conversation on our social media platforms provided below my signature.
Regards,
Jennifer Reed
I doesn't say if Bioscapes has been discontinued or not, just the usual corporate spin I had to put up with when I worked at Olympus. The link she sent doesn't work and wrote back asking for a direct reply as to whether the competition has been discontinued or not.

My extreme-macro.co.uk site, a learning site. Your comments and input there would be gratefully appreciated.

Olympus Bioscapes
After pointedly asking Jennifer about the status of Olympus Bioscapes, the reply is that it has been (wait for it) "suspended."

Olympus has just launched a new competition with five categories, one of which is Macro. Maybe this is meant to be a replacement for the Bioscapes...

Olympus photo contest
This contest is not a part of the Scientific Equipment Group (microscopes). This is part of a global marketing campaign, so it has no association with the departed Bioscapes competition.
Having worked for Olympus I have an inside track on their corporate culture.

All the mounting lawsuits are going to bury Olympus. Maybe not this year, but there's just too much for them to survive in any kind of capacity like they've had in the past.

Olympus suits
Before Olympus "retired" me, I was in technical support and had a lot of contact with customers in the outside world.
At that time there weren't too many lawsuits going on, but because of the behavior of ENRON discarding a lot of inormation we were instructed to not delete any emails at all. They would set up special folders where we could save all of our emails. It just added some work for us every day besides our regular tasks.
I'm actually pretty happy I am no longer there after all the staff reductions.
