Hi Gang

Trying something new. I believe this is an Eastern Pondhawk.

Nearly really good - I just get the feeling its feet aren't gripping anything, and the shadow is on the inside of a grey box. In other words, it's dead and been posed there.
Now you're going to tell me it's alive, right? :? :)

Hi Chris

Bummer. You are correct. It is posed. I tried to get it to look natural
but they do not cooperate very well.

The gray box is a piece of art I got from my wife so I could diffuse
some colors on the background, but the diffused wing is NOT a shadow,
just shallow DOF.

Here is one I like a lot. The colors on this one were created a different way.
Care to speculate?

Mike

thank you Mike! Your photo's inspire me!

One question please: can you tell what techniques you use to avoid or remove dust from specimen? It's a challenging issue for me and others.

Hi Carmen

I think there might be some info in the techniques section of the forum

I use a feather to do initial cleaning, however it can be
difficult if dust and materials are "stuck" in small hairs and
body parts.

Use a dissecting scope to look your subject over.
