Spider with beetle prey

Post by rjlittlefield »

Image

Beetles are not the usual prey to see a spider working on, but this one seems to have the situation well in hand. The beetle is around 3/8" long.

Technical: Canon SD700 IS, auto-everything. Cropped to about 40% of image height. A bit of additional blur to the background, but no extra sharpening.

He does look like he has a super-sized meal there Rik. I wonder what percentage of the beetle gets used as food and what gets wasted and how fast it spoils and cannot be eaten (so many questions...so little time) :-k
