Büchse der Pandora, stack in 1µm step and shorter

Post by Guppy »

Büchse der Pandora

The " Büchse der Pandora" is a thermodynamic micro stacking cylinder,
with can do steps from 0.2µm.
I use the NIKON M Plan, 20/0.4 LWD, 210/0, with 30:1, Sharpness depth 1.8µm.
The picture width amounts 0.8mm.
These were 1062 pictures, stack with Zerene.
It is the head from Sitophilus granarius.

Hello Saul

My english is bad.
The "Büchse der Pandora" is easy to make it self, see:
http://www.makro-forum.de/ftopic95030.html or
http://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=18788.0

When you worm up a PVC tube from 200mm then it is going longer,
aproximative 0.5mm.
When you isolate the PVC Tube it cool down from 45°C to 28°C in 100 Minutes.
Ther are no steps, it is not digital it is analog!
In this time you can make 1000 pictures.

I hope, i can give enough information
it is very easy!

Ingenious!

I read your forum posting using the Google Chrome browser, which does automatic translation from German to English. The translation is rough but simple to understand. I will add your setup to my list of links in the FAQ.

Thanks for posting! :D

Hello

The new "Büchse der Pandora" (Pandora's box), has inside a steel tube
(300Gramm), so the time to cool out ist longer (100 minute).
And the lamp is 40 Watt.
The white cable is the temperature sensor.

Hello Kurt,

Great macro picture, great idea !
I was also thinking on bimetals, shape-memory-alloy, or even a mechanical kitchen timer to do some small displacements, but this works great.

Update : link to Shape-Memory-Alloy : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape-memory_alloy or Google with : muscle wire
