British Soldier, lichen

Post by Ken Ramos »

Taking my usual noon day or lunch time walk around the plant grounds where I am currently employed, I could not help but not to notice the brilliant red of these lichens. For a more generalized image see here :D

Nicely captured, Ken! :D
You've specialized British Soldiers.
They have an extra sort of red color, can't remember anything comparable in nature by the moment. :-k

Ken,

this is a sharp, impressive shot '8)' . Surely a Cladonia, maybe a Cladonia coccifera.

Indeed red they are. That is what captured my attention as I walked along there, Nikola. Thanks :D

Thanks Doug. I found reference to it in "Lichens" by William Purvis, seems as though these are Cladonia floerkeana. Ralf was on track with his identificaiton though but in my haste I keyed only on the fact that they belonged to Cladonia spp. :D
