I was out on the lawn this afternoon, innocently repacking some gear, when suddenly this fly literally dropped dead in front of me. Plop! Right onto a piece of fabric. Odd.
In sunlight the fly had a nice color, so I thought it would make a nice photographic subject.
But on closer inspection, I discovered that no amount of cleaning was going to make this fly photogenic. What I had in hand was not a freshly dead fly, but rather the remains of somebody's meal. From the puncture wounds, I suspect a predatory fly, but I suppose it could have been a spider also.
