There's an excellent extensive test (by Javier?) here, comparing JML 21mm vs Mitutoyo 5X, together with 10 other great lenses. _________________ Fred

Hello Acon,
Since you use one yourself , and aquiring so many nice equipment, can you show some results made with your copy of the JML 21mm? _________________ Fred

Based on the spec, it would make a great lens to stick on a medium-format camera. I'm having visions of stacking at 10X on a Hasselblad H4D-200MS camera, covering an area that's only 3.7x4.9 mm with 200 megapixels. OK, that might be going a bit far, but even the 50 megapixel version would still be pretty cool! I'm especially amused by the concept of sticking a $22K camera behind a $25 lens, even behind a $300 lens, and very reasonably expecting the lens to hold up to the experience.

I missed this thread...and thus an opportunity for a nice wide-field optic
But I've used an Apo-Rodagon 75/4 on a Hasselblad; works well and lens is reasonably inexpensive so I'm familiar with the idea :-)
It would be very nice to try, if just to see what can be achieved with such a combination.
Regarding the Nikon CFI60 10x, the price as new seems to be between $200-$300. Some people paid a fraction but they were lucky and going prices are certainly much higher now and has been for a while. I paid three figure myself and consider it entirely fair. Not sure if I'll keep it in the long run though, but wouldn't sell for anything but a three figure sum. The thing is that the stories are all about the good deals, but someone gets the bad deals too and the majority of the deals are just fair. |

Missed this thread, but thanks for the new info, especially the spec sheet! I had bought some a while ago, sold a few for little with adapter (also shown in this thread above) and kept two for my use.
So would it be best to reverse the lens? What is the current opinion here on the best useful magnification range? _________________ Klaus

I think the JML is a wonderfull lens that can be used from 3X to 10X on full frame cameras; like Rik suggested once it would be also a nice bellows lens for medium format camera
Best range could be 4-7X, for higher than that I would use either of the mitus (5X or 10X)
It is on the same leage as the photar 25/2 and mitu 5/0.14 and is better than the famous Olympus 38/2.8
No idea about reversing it but I do not think it can get better than it already is
Regards

All 10 JML 21mm f/3.5 lenses have gone to their new home, 2 for myself and 8 for 5 members of this forum (it's hard to make it because almost all of us encountered serious Paypal issue so I just shipped the last lenses to their new owner recently). So sorry for other guys who want to buy them but not have the chance to.
The seller told me that he can gather more of this lens for me (not sure about his word since this lens is very rare now) but the price would be higher than the final stock 10 lenses bought by me, so maybe it's better to collect the lens from other corners of the world or the lens plus the postage would be very expensive and not worthy.
So good luck, hope everybody who want this lens would have one and make his/her excellent photos. |

I understand that some members had trouble sending payments via PayPal.
This may help. In similar circumstances I found that the PayPal Send Money system would not recognise the intended recipient's e-mail address if I copied it (as supplied by the payee) and pasted it into the PayPal box. I checked for unwanted spaces but could find none. Anyway, I typed exactly the same address into the box and it worked.
