When I bought my D700 it came with Capture NX-2. The authorization code for it came when I registered the camera.
I got a new computer so I need NX-2 on that. I assumed the code which popped up in the program was the authorization code, but it's not.
So I don't have the code now, and Nikon tell me I have to buy the program (approx £175, $250) again.
With my Canon of course DPP is free so there's no problem.
Having both makes, there's always a choice which way to buy in future... |

Sometimes pirate software may be an ethical response to brands with this kind of policy. _________________ Pau |

That's really unfortunate and poor customer relations, to say the least. I hope there is some way to appeal the decision, perhaps to a local or national government agency.
In the US, as a last resort, if one simply files a case with a small claims court, which is simple and cheap to do, the major company will usually immediately settle to avoid having to show up in court or to automatically lose the case if they don't show up. I think the only thing you need is a country-specific legal address and maybe $25-50 US dollars to file the case.
By contrast, Adobe gladly sold me several very expensive software packages (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc) and they were VERY cooperative after my previous PC suddenly died (motherboard problems, not practical to repair). I simply called their 800 customer support/licensing number and explained my dilemma, and explained that I could not deauthorize my old PC since it had suddenly died. They immediately supplied me with all new software keys and I was soon up and running on my new PC.
Hmmm...as much as I've been committing techno-lust re the 800E DSLR, maybe my Canon isn't so bad after all. I've never had issues like you describe with my Canon hardware or software. _________________ -Phil

Can you uninstall the software from the old computer? Oftentimes, this frees up the license, but you may still need the original software installation/authorization key...sighs...
I recall now that Capture NX seems to be based on "Nik software", a semi-independent image processing software company. I have and love Nik's Photoshop add-ons, including their "Complete" filters package, their sharpening package, etc. _________________ -Phil

| While this won't help you now, I email the various PIDs and keys to myself which means I can retrieve them as long as the email provider stays in business. |

The authorization code should be on the bottom of the back half of the CD case. _________________ --bob
