An interesting, and at first glance, reasonably well-written and informative article. AFAIK, it's not behind a paywall:

Excerpt:
"Scientists at Duke University in North Carolina have built an experimental camera with more than 30 times the data-collecting capacity of today's best consumer digital devices, a development that could fundamentally alter the way images are captured and viewed."
"While today's best digital cameras take images having pixel counts in the tens of millions, the latest device produces a still or video image with a billion pixels, which is five times more detail than can be seen by a person with 20/20 vision."

Be sure and click on the graphic links, etc.
So, what could we do with such a beast of a camera for macro or macro stacks?
Right now, I just want one that will find the ommatidia of bugs, track this focus target while it moves around and while my camera shakes, and then take photos or a properly spaced focus stack when a good composition is present, and I want it to do all this reliably. But would that still be enjoyable as a hobby! (insert smiles here) _________________ -Phil

Kind of cheating. And it's very big. |

I can already do that with my camera setup In fact, I can even to more with focus stacking. Instead of having 100 cameras capturing the image, I have to move the camera 100 times. |

Exactly. It's a panoramera. |
