Urostyla or Holosticha?

Post by RogelioMoreno »

For me the following cialite looks like Holosticha; but the rows of ciiri make me doubt.

Objective: plan apo 20x/0.75, DIC.

Very nice, is that a row of micro-nuclei in #4?

That look like that; but I am not sure, you can see it on #1 too.

Thank you for your comments.

Rogelio, I think Anteholosticha monilata is a likely candidate. This is the organism Kahl described as Kerenopsis monilata, and which appears in some sources as Holosticha monilata.

My understanding of the species is sketchy and impressionistic, and, as you know the taxonomy of these groups is extremely complicated. If it were my find, I would call it A. monilata...with a question mark.

I am still working my way through the chapter on Anteholosticha monilata in Berger's Monograph of the Urostyloidea, but will post more when I've finished.

Mitch, that chain of circles is not a series of "micronuclei" but a beaded "macronucleus."
