Thanks, Rik!!!! I must have missed that last part of that post which I of course remember. One of the most amazing set of pictures I know.

I can imagine it is not easy to use. Probably you should avoid blowing away the insect:-)

...anaesthesia: as you know, I use lidocaine or benzocaine for temporary anaesthesia for water dwelling creatures, but for a more permanent(!) solution for insects have found that a good alternative to ethyl acetate is to place the insect in a small container with a small cotton-wool or tissue ball soaked in isopropyl alcohol (propan-2-ol, isopropanol). I guess almost any volatile organic liquid would work, inluding whiskey (although, maybe that would be a bit too dilute)
